Demo by WebCRG — Halverne Studio is fictional; its website is shown before and after modernization.

About this demo

What this demo shows

Halverne Studio is fictional. WebCRG built both versions of its website to show what its website modernization and performance service does to a site that has fallen behind.

Keeping the comparison fair

  • Both versions have the same text and are made from the same pictures, rendered from one source.
  • The old version uses current releases of jQuery, jQuery UI, Slick, Lightbox2 and Font Awesome, served from the same server as everything else. Its problems are how it is built, not outdated or insecure libraries.
  • The pictures are our own illustrations, not photographs, so both versions compress them unusually well; with real photos, the gap in picture weight is usually larger.
  • On webcrg.com, the hosting company’s CDN recompresses pictures and converts them to WebP for browsers that accept it, for both versions. That makes the old version’s pictures much smaller in transit than the files on its server (a 186 KB JPEG arrives as about 26 KB). What a CDN cannot fix is the rest: the scripts that block the first paint, the fixed layout and the six font weights.
  • Every number on these pages describes these two demo builds only. A real site’s results depend on its content, its hosting and its visitors.
