About this demo
What this demo shows
Tallowbrook Supply is fictional. WebCRG built this demo to show what its Node.js and API development service delivers, in a form you can use: a real API on the internet, answering at https://webcrg.com/demos/tallowbrook-api.
The problem
“Our front end is ready, but there’s nothing behind it.”
A Node.js API that owns the shop’s data and rules: it reserves stock, prices orders on the server, names the exact field that is wrong, and uses idempotency keys so a retried request never places a second order.
The problem
“We need to connect to another platform.”
Every order goes to a payment provider, an email service and a CRM without anyone copying it across. Payments confirm through signed webhooks; a forged one is refused. When the CRM is down, the sync retries and then waits for a replay, so nothing is lost.
The problem
“Our API has become slow and hard to change.”
One report, two implementations: one query per row against three batched queries and a cache with ETags. Both return the same report; you measure the difference from your own browser.
How it is built
- Node.js and TypeScript with Fastify. Every route has a JSON schema; the API validates requests against it and generates its OpenAPI document from it.
- Private sandboxes: each visitor gets a key and a copy of the shop’s data, kept in memory for 24 hours or until the server restarts. Nothing is written to disk and request bodies are never logged.
- One error format, request ids, Server-Timing headers, a rate limit per visitor and a 16 KB limit on request bodies.
- Integrations behind adapters, an event log for every step, HMAC-signed webhooks, retries with growing delays, and a replay for anything parked.
- Automated tests for the rules, the integrations and both versions of the report.
- Hosted on the same web server as webcrg.com, which starts it with Node.js 22. When the demo has been quiet for a while the server may stop it; the next request starts it again with fresh sandboxes, and this site creates a new one for you.
What is simulated
The payment provider, email service and CRM are stand-ins that run next to the API, so no real payments or emails ever happen. The data lives in memory, and each “database query” in the report waits a fixed few milliseconds to stand in for a real database.
